Adjusting screen brightness with regular Windows 7/10 tools

Method 1: Monitor Plus
First, we will learn how to solve the voiced problem using a third-party program designed to control the Monitor Plus monitor.
- This program does not require installation. Therefore, after downloading it, simply unzip the contents of the archive and activate the Monitor.exe application executable file. A miniature program control panel will open. In it, the numbers indicate the current brightness (in first place) and contrast (in second place) of the monitor through a fraction.
To change the brightness, first of all, make sure that the value in the Monitor Plus header is set to “Monitor - Brightness”.

A window is activated where, to fully configure the system under F.lux, it is proposed to restart the PC. Save data in all active documents and exit applications. Then press "Restart Now".
After rebooting, the program determines your location automatically via the Internet. But you can also indicate your default position in the absence of the Internet. To do this, in the window that opens, click on the inscription "Specify the default location".
The built-in utility of the operating system opens, in which you should specify in the fields "Postcode" and "A country" relevant data. Other information in this window is optional. Click "Apply".
In addition, simultaneously with the previous system windows, the F.lux program window will open, in which your location will be displayed according to information from the sensors. If true, just click OK. If it does not match, then indicate the point of real location on the map, and then click OK.
After that, the program will itself adjust the most optimal screen brightness depending on whether day or night, morning or evening in your area. Naturally, for this F.lux should constantly be running on the computer in the background.
Method 3: graphics card management program
Now we learn how to solve the problem with the program for managing the video card. Typically, this application is available on the installation disc that came with the video adapter and is installed with the drivers for the video card. We will look at the actions using the example of a program for controlling the NVIDIA video adapter.
- The program for managing the video adapter is registered in autorun and starts with the operating system, working in the background. To activate its graphical shell, move to the tray and look for the icon there NVIDIA Settings. Click on it.
If for some reason the application is not added to the autorun, or you have forcibly terminated it, you can start it manually. Go to "Desktop" and click on the free space with the right mouse button (RMB) In the activated menu, click NVIDIA Control Panel.

The settings of interest to us can be adjusted using only OS tools, in particular, a tool Window Color in section "Personalization". But for this, one of the Aero themes must be active on the PC. As you can see, the ability to adjust the screen brightness of computers exclusively with standard OS tools in Windows 7 is quite limited.
