How to unlock mouse on hp laptop

I am glad to welcome my curious readers again, among whom there are probably owners of Hewlett-Packard laptops and those who wish to purchase such a device. This article is dedicated exclusively to you, because it will focus on how to disable the touchpad on an HP laptop. I have already done summarizing material on this topic. However, the technology produced by this brand is so unique that it is worth reflecting some points.

Let me remind you the essence of the problem. If you connect a peripheral mouse when working with a laptop, then you will get two duplicating devices that can control the cursor. And since the touchpad is in the area where the hand rests on the keyboard (?), There is a high probability that you will touch the touch panel and the cursor position will change in spite of your desire.

This is very inconvenient when working with documents, tables, graphics, and, of course, during the game. Therefore, in order to avoid troubles and nervous irritations, it is recommended to simply turn off the touchpad.

We are looking for a pair of keys "Fn"

For most laptops, the easiest way to turn off the sensor is to use a combination of two keys on the keyboard: Fn + is one of the number of function buttons F1 - F12.

Each brand has its own “Fix” for this. But for different HP models, it can vary, so there is no clear recommendation here and you will have to choose the right combination.

But then you may find some new and useful combination with the Fn button. If your PC is not old, and the signatures of the buttons on the keyboard have been erased, then there is a chance to find the button you need by the special icon. But I will say right away. All these attempts can turn out to be a failure, because there is an easier way on the Hewlett laptops.

Disabling the touchpad on laptops

The touchpad has completely replaced the mouse on a laptop, and for a long time, is an integral part of it. But for a person who is used to using traditional accessories - a keyboard and a mouse, it’s very difficult to get used to the new device, and it’s quite natural to want to return everything to its place, since any laptop has the opportunity to connect a mouse. How to do this?

Unique HP Touchpad Solution

Hewlett-Packard laptop developers like no one else paid attention to the problem of accidental use of TouchPad and proposed a solution that is different:

  • simplicity
  • efficiency
  • ergonomics
  • in addition, it is intuitive.

It works like that. Pay attention to the upper left corner of the touchpad, perhaps there is even a mark in the form of a small depression.

Make a couple of quick tapes (touches) at this place with your fingertip. Or press the panel at this point and hold your hand for five seconds.

Similarly, you can reactivate the touchpad. Agree, this is brilliant. And why do other manufacturers do not have such a "chip"? :(

Convenient system features of Windows 10

The above thing, of course, is convenient. But let's face it: do you always remember that you need to disable ClickPad? If not, then here is a recommendation from the official Hewlett-Packard website on how to automatically disable the touchpad when you connect the mouse via USB using the built-in Windows tools.

  • To begin with, we will hammer in the search (Win 10) "Turning the touch panel on or off" and in the results we will choose the proposed option.
  • Before us is a beautiful window in which we can slightly adjust the touchpad. If you move the Touch Panel slider to off. That will give us a complete touchpad disable.

Well, great? :) So that's not all.

  • If you leave that switch in place, and then remove the checkbox "Do not turn off the touch panel when connecting a mouse." Both manipulators will work alternately, but in due time. When the mouse is connected, the touchpad will turn off and vice versa.

  • The last point is what you need to enjoy as high quality as possible :). After all, we decided a small but needed problemmku.

If you do not pay attention to my lyrical digressions, then the implementation of this operation to disable the touchpad should take you no more than a minute.

Your way to BIOS

I wanted to finish it already. After all, the remaining way to deactivate the sensor via BIOS is the same as in other models (judging by the navigation in the menu). Select “Advanced”, look for “Internal Pointing Device” and deactivate this device. In Russified UEFI, everything is simpler and more understandable.

But, there is one “BUT" - the entrance to the system settings in HP is carried out with "your own" keys:

  • if you have a technique released before 2008, to enter the BIOS, press "F10",
  • for later PCs, when rebooting, you will first need to intensively work with the “Esc” button. And then calmly press "F10" and go to the BIOS.

This is all that "I had to say" to the owners of these laptops. I hope I helped you resolve the issue of how to disable the touchpad on an hp laptop.

In the meantime, I wish everyone good luck and say goodbye to new meetings on the pages of my blog.

Laptop reboot

Sometimes troubleshooting a touchpad can be done by simply restarting the laptop. After restarting the system, the TouchPad starts functioning again without failures, so that the user does not have to resort to other methods for restoring the health described below. To perform a reboot, you can connect a regular computer mouse to the laptop. If there is no external mouse, but you cannot use the built-in mouse, reboot from the keyboard. There are several ways:

  • Click on the Win button (it shows the Windows logo) to open the Start menu. Using the arrows, go to the “Shutdown” item, press Enter and select reboot.
  • Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and use the arrows to go to the menu button with shutdown modes.
  • From the desktop, press Alt + F4 and use the arrows to select a reboot.

If the problem persists after restarting, use one of the following methods to troubleshoot the touch panel.

On almost all laptops, TouchPad is turned on / off using one of the keys from the F1-F12 series, pressed in combination with the Fn button. For example, on laptops ASUS operates a combination of Fn + F9. Possible combinations for other manufacturers:

  • Acer - Fn + F7.
  • Samsung - Fn + F5.
  • Dell - Fn + F5.
  • Lenovo - Fn + F8 and Fn + F5.
  • Toshiba - Fn + F5.
  • Sony - Fn + F1.

To understand which key is suitable, the applied drawing will help, which usually shows the crossed out touch panel.

You can enable the touchpad on your HP laptop using the dedicated button above the touch panel. If there is no separate button, pay attention to the Touchpad itself. If there is a small indentation or dot on the built-in mouse, try double-clicking on it.

Enabling the Synaptics Touchpad

If the laptop has a touchpad manufactured by Synaptics, then it has additional parameters through which the TouchPad is turned off. To check if the sensor is turned on:

  1. Open the control panel and go to the "Hardware and Sound" section. Go to the "Mouse" subsection.
  2. In the properties of the mouse, go to the tab "Device Settings" (may be called ELAN).
  3. Click the Enable button, if available, and save the configuration by clicking OK.

In the mouse settings, there may be another useful option, when activated, the touch panel will automatically turn off when an external input device is connected. If the TouchPad does not work when the mouse is connected to the laptop, the reason for this is just the above option.

If the "Enable" button is inactive, then the cause of the error should be sought elsewhere - for example, in the BIOS settings.

BIOS Setup

The basic I / O system displays all the main components of a laptop. Accordingly, they can also be controlled from here, and the touch panel is no exception.

  1. Reboot the laptop. When turned on, press the Delete or F2 key to enter the BIOS.
  2. Go to the “Advanced” tab and find the “Internal Pointing Device” parameter. Set it to “Enabled”.
  3. Save the configuration by pressing F10 and “Y”.

The names of the partitions and parameters differ on different versions of the BIOS, so it is better to find the operating manual for your laptop model on the official website of the laptop manufacturer and carefully study it.

Reinstalling drivers

For any device to work properly, certain software is required. You can download drivers for the touch panel on the website of the laptop manufacturer in the "Support" or "Service" section. When downloading, you need to pay attention to the following data:

  • Laptop model.
  • Version of the installed system.
  • Bit depth Windows (x86 (x32) or x64).

Maximum compatibility is achieved when all three parameters coincide. But if there are exceptions: if the bit depth of the system must be the same, then the Windows version is allowed to be different. For example, on Windows 10, some drivers from Windows 8 will work normally, provided that an update is not issued for the “dozens”.

If the drivers are downloaded as an executable file with the extension * .exe, then they can be installed like any program using the installation wizard. If the installation wizard fails, add the drivers manually:

  1. Open the control panel, set the “Large Icons” view and launch the device manager.
  2. Expand the "Mouse" section and find the touchpad. Right-click on it and select "Properties".
  3. Make sure the device is in use and working properly.
  4. Click on the “Driver” tab. First, try rolling back the software by clicking on the button of the same name. If the driver rollback did not solve the problem, click "Update".
  5. A window for selecting the update mode will appear. If you have already downloaded the necessary software from the manufacturer’s website, select manual installation.
  6. Specify the path to the downloaded drivers and wait for the installation to complete.

After reinstalling the drivers, restart the laptop. At the next start, check the touchpad. If it does not start functioning, it may be due to physical damage. In this case, the question of how to turn on the touchpad should already be asked by a specialist in a service center. Damaged can be:

  1. A cable connecting the touchpad to the motherboard.
  2. The sensor itself (for example, the panel cracked due to impact).
  3. The South Bridge is a microcircuit responsible for the operation of peripheral devices. If the south bridge is damaged, USB and LAN ports often also fail.

You can disassemble the laptop yourself, using the instructions for your model, but this is not recommended, since unprofessional intervention is fraught with the appearance of even more serious problems.

How to disable the touchpad on a laptop

The first way - a special button

On many laptop models, manufacturers have provided the ability to disable the touchpad. For these purposes, a special button was created. To disable the touchpad, press the key combination Fn and the touch panel disable icon.

The second way - through the control panel

You need to configure the panel so that when you turn on the mouse, the touchpad will turn off automatically. A USB output is used to connect the mouse, both wired and wireless.

Step One: Open the Control Panel. Go to the view section and click on the "Mouse" icon.

Step two: carefully study the "Device Settings", where should be the inscription Synaptics ClickPad. Click disable. Then check the box next to the suggestion to disconnect the internal pointing device when connecting an external USB output.

The third way - without using drivers

With the third way to disable the touchpad, we will come to the rescue, familiar to everyone, the device manager from Windows. Getting into it is very simple. To do this, press the two keys with the Windows window and the letter R. This method is universal, suitable for all laptops running the most common system. Then the devmgmt.msc command is entered on an empty line and the selection is confirmed by clicking “OK”.

After that, the device manager appears on the screen, where we are interested in two sections, namely, Mice and other pointing devices and HID devices. But what we see there may be different. Maybe a submenu of the touchpad, USB input device, USB mouse. It can only be common that one of the listed devices uses a PS / 2 port, there is a touchpad. In order to establish the truth, they will have to resort to the trouble-free Russian method - the poke method. But seriously, turn off the equipment, and see what, in the end, turned off. If not the touchpad, we return to the previous settings. To stop the device, just click on the right mouse button and activate disconnect.

Mouse connection

To connect a wired mouse, you need to find a free USB connector on the laptop case. If there is no free port, use a splitter. But many devices cannot be connected this way, otherwise the mouse may not have enough power.

No mouse software is required. You also don’t have to turn it on separately, after connecting the device will immediately work. In this case, the touchpad will continue to respond to user actions. If this interferes, you can turn off the touch panel and use only the connected wired mouse.

If you have a wireless mouse that works via Bluetooth, then connecting it will also be easy. On Windows 7:

  1. Turn on the mouse so that the laptop can detect the device.
  2. Click the wireless icon in the system tray. Select Add Device.
  3. Wait for the scan to complete and select a mouse from the list of connected equipment.

On Windows 8 and Windows 10, you can enable Bluetooth on the tab of the same name in the "Devices" section of the system parameters. The mouse search will start on the laptop automatically, make sure that it is turned on.

Disabling the touchpad with a button

Speaking about how to disable the mouse on an asus laptop or other models, first of all, it should be noted that there are several ways. The most common and simple of them is the use of the keyboard, or rather some of the function keys that are located here.

On some laptops in the upper left corner of the touch panel there is a small button used as a switch. But it is not available on all models, so sometimes you have to resort to other methods. So, the button for calling additional Fn functions in combination with one of the F keys will give us the desired result. But on laptop computers from different manufacturers, it can vary. For example, if we are interested in how to disable the mouse on a Lenovo laptop, then it will be Fn and F8, on Acer - Fn and F7. You can recognize the function key by the designation on it; here, a crossed out square should be drawn. After you disable the touchpad, if the Fn button interferes with your work, then see this article to disable the Fn button on a laptop.

It occurs that the user wants to activate the touchpad function in the above manner, using the “hot” buttons. If such an operation fails, it is possible that this is due to the settings of the laptop. So, you can enable the function in which the touchpad will automatically turn off when you connect a wireless mouse to the device.

Disabling the mouse through the control panel

In order to disable the mouse on the laptop, you can go to the Control Panel. To do this, use the Start button. In the menu that appears, select and click on the inscription Mouse. A new window opens in front of you.

In the menu that appears, you need to slightly change the parameters. To do this, select the touch panel, and then click the Disable button. Confirm the operation by clicking on OK. In this way, you can re-activate the touchpad.

Bios Settings

A rather complicated way to turn off the mouse on an hp laptop or other model is to do this operation in Bios. Although such a manipulation is quite possible. It will come in handy if other methods for some reason do not suit you or are impossible, although this rarely happens.

So, we reboot the laptop and go into the BIOS. Here we select the Advanced tab. If you do not find this tab in the BIOS, then you need to update the BIOS to a newer version. Further in the Advanced tab, go to the link Internal Pointing Device. Opposite it with normal settings is Enabled. To disable the touchpad, you must change the label to Disabled. That's all you need to do. After that we load the operating system.

There are other methods to turn off the touch panel, but they are even more complex. For example, you can disable the loop connected to it. However, this is a rather complicated operation, especially for those who are not too well versed in the insides of their laptop. In addition, there are special utilities, for example, Synaptics.

There are a lot of ways to disable the touchpad. You should not be very smart, the easiest way to solve this problem is to use hot keys. If for some reason this does not work, then try with other methods. Although, do not forget that the touch panel can be very useful if you forget the wireless mouse or the batteries suddenly run out in it.

Tips Edit

  • No need to beat and knock on a laptop.
  • You can also cancel the zoom function with two fingers:
    • Нажмите правой кнопкой мыши на рабочем столе, нажмите Персонализация, затем Курсоры или Указатели мыши. Откроется окно настроек.
    • Откройте вкладку Настройки устройства. Выберите опцию Синаптический сенсорный экран. Откройте вкладку Движение мышью.
    • Выберите опцию Масштабирование двумя пальцами.

There are reverse situations, TouchPad for some reason stopped working, what should I do? We will talk about both cases in more detail. It is worth noting that turning on touch mouse is similar to turning off, only held in reverse order .

Using function keys

On almost all modern laptops, there is the ability to disable / enable the touchpad using a special function key combinations. For different models of laptops, their options are different. It should be noted that this method works with native drivers.

Many laptops have a combination of simultaneously pressed buttons Fn + f9. But based on which model. options may vary.

If your laptop is not among the above, pay attention to the function keys, for the presence of them Pictures with crossed out touchpad.

If you don’t find the pictures, it remains to try brute force (be careful not to disable other necessary functions). Probably, in this case, you do not have special drivers installed, you can update them or resort to other methods described below.

Disabling the touch mouse via BIOS

In the Dispatcher we find our touchpad, it is most likely located in the Mice and other pointing devices section.

Click on it with the right button, and in the properties disconnect .

In case you have a native official driver on the TouchPad, you can find its advanced settings. For example, from the manufacturer Dell, this can be done as follows.

Open settings at Mouse properties. where did i find the Dell touchpad tab. See the link below for the opening and change settings devices.

A window opens in which there is an opportunity inclusion and off touch panel.

If there are no advanced settings, then you can download "Native" driver from the official website of the manufacturer of your laptop.
