If you encounter one of the following problems, then the possible cause is a slow download speed.

  • Installation takes a lot of time.
  • The download or update indicator has not changed for a long time.

If you experience problems connecting to the network or network errors occur, try the Xbox One Network Connection Error Solution.

The following steps can help you identify a network problem with downloading games and applications on your Xbox One, and show you how to increase download speeds.

Solution 1. Check download speed

You can do this as follows.

  1. Scroll through the list Installation .
  2. In the "Queue" section of the page My games and applications Pay attention to the download speed of the installed game or application. It indicates the current download speed. If there are low speeds (for example, less than 1 megabit per second), then it can take a lot of time to download.

The table below shows the estimated load times based on the current download speed.

Note. This is for reference only and does not reflect actual download times. Download times increase and bandwidth shrinks while streaming content, games, and streaming games from the Xbox One to a Windows 10 PC.

Current download speed

If a 40 GB file is installed and 25% is already downloaded (30 GB remaining), and the connection speed is 10 Mbps, then it will take 4.4 hours to complete the download. (It is assumed that the download speed is unchanged).

When connected to Xbox Live, the speed must be at least 1.5 Mb / s in order to fully use the capabilities of this service. For more information about using bandwidth and troubleshooting network issues, see Troubleshoot Xbox One network connectivity issues.

Solution 2. Close all running games.

For the games to work better, background downloads are limited while a game is running. To remove the download limit for installed games and applications, you can wait for the Xbox One console to stop the game, or force the game to close by yourself by following these steps.

  1. On the main page go to the recently launched game.
  2. After choosing a game, click Menu and then select Go out.

Closing the latest running game,

  • Check the download speed of the game or application.
  • Do not run other games and applications until the download is complete - this may slow down the download process.

Solution 3. Restart the console

  1. Press and hold the button Xbox in the center of the Xbox One controller to open the Power Management screen.
  2. Select Restart console.
  3. Select Restart. All downloads in progress are automatically paused and will resume after the console restarts.

Note. If the console freezes, press and hold Xbox on the console for about 10 seconds until it turns off. After turning off the console, turn it on again by pressing the button Xbox .

When you restart the console, all open games and applications will be closed. After restarting the console, make sure the download resumes by following these steps:

  1. On home page open My games and applications.
  2. Open section Turn and select the game or application you want to download.
  3. For a game or application, the status should be displayed Installation.
  4. If status is displayed Queue or Pausedthen select a game or application and press the button Menu then select Continue installation.

After the download has resumed, follow these steps:

  • Check the download speed of the game or application.
  • Do not run other games and applications until the download is complete - this may slow down the download process.

Solution 4: Uninstall the game or application, and then reinstall it

If the above steps did not solve the problem, cancel the installation of the game. The following describes how to do this.

  1. On home page open My games and applications.
  2. Open section Turn and select the game or application you want to download.
  3. Press button Menu on the gamepad and select Cancel.

After that, you can reinstall the game from disk or re-download it from the Microsoft Store. To re-download the game from the Microsoft Store, find the game in it, select it and select Install.

After restarting the download of the game or application, check its speed.

Solution 5: Verify the console’s network connection

If the previous solutions did not resolve the issue, compare the console download speed with the planned speed according to the agreement with your Internet service provider. First, pause all running and scheduled downloads.

  1. On home page open My games and applications.
  2. Select Turn and highlight all the games and applications that are downloading or queued for download.
  3. Press button Menu on the gamepad, then select Pause installation for every game and application that is downloaded or queued.

Then close all games running on the system.

  1. On the main page go to the recently launched game.
  2. After choosing a game, click Menu and then select Go out.

Now run the network connection speed test.

  1. Press button Xbox to open the guide.
  2. Select System >Settings.
  3. Select Network> Network Settings >Detailed network statistics.

A connection test will be launched on the console, after which the download speed will be shown, which can be compared with the planned speed from your Internet service provider. If on the page Detailed network statistics You are observing significantly lower download speeds than expected, there may be several possible reasons for this.

Conflict in the home network. Network devices can compete for home network bandwidth just like your Xbox One console. Try pausing the download steps of all other devices on your home network, perhaps this will increase the console loading speed. Also check if your router supports Quality of Service (QoS, Quality of Service) technology for connecting to the Internet. Enabling QoS on your router may give priority to your Xbox One network connection, which will increase download speeds.

Wireless Conflict. If the console is connected to the home network wirelessly, the console may conflict with other wireless devices or networks. If possible, try connecting your Xbox One console to your router through a wired connection.

If you cannot connect the console via a wired connection, check if your router supports dual-band Wi-Fi connections (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). If your router supports two bands, try switching your Xbox One console to the 5 GHz band and other wireless devices to 2.4 GHz. Although a 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection has a range of less than 2.4 GHz, it is also less covered by other wireless networks and thus works better.

Conflict in the network of an Internet service provider. Your download speed may also vary depending on the time of day and day of the week. Often this is caused by conflicts in the network of the Internet service provider during peak periods. If the download speeds on the Xbox One console are significantly reduced on weekends (especially in the evening) compared to the morning or afternoon of a normal day of the week, then the cause may be conflicts in the network of your Internet service provider. To get around this restriction, try to start downloading the game or application in the evening and leave it overnight when the network load is minimal.

If the download is still slow, try the Xbox One Network Connection Troubleshooter. This will help you identify problems in collaboration between your home network and your Internet service provider.
