Knitting is considered one of the types of needlework that came to us many - many years ago. This is an old art form, but very beloved by many women. Knitting with needles is popular and relevant not only among grandmothers, as many believe, but also among girls and girls. Moreover, this is not just a hobby for a pleasant pastime, but also a useful occupation, as knitwear is the warmest thing in the winter. It is so nice to wear warm wool socks on a cold winter evening and take cover with a blanket. For this, we offer in this article step-by-step instructions on how to knit socks with knitting needles for beginners (on 5 knitting needles).

Also an advantage of this type of needlework is that things created with your own hands will be unique and inimitable, because you can show all your imagination and create something new. Also, do-it-yourself clothes are much nicer to wear by yourself and give to loved ones. In addition, there is a big advantage that such things will cost you much cheaper than those bought in the store.

Researchers have identified a number of positive factors related to knitting:

  1. Knitting can calm a person, relieve stress and tension. Improving health, knitting has a positive effect on health.
  2. A person leaves the feeling of anxiety during knitting, as the muscles of the body relax and the heart rate decreases.
  3. During this process, a person focuses better.

The right selection of knitting tools

First of all, you need to prepare the tools. To knit in this way you will need five circular knitting needles. Give preference to thinner knitting needles, because the thickness of the tool affects the density of the resulting product.

Next, we choose yarn. It all depends on what exactly you want to tie. In order to knit socks, it is better for a beginner to purchase synthetic yarn first. Make sure that the thread is dense and does not divide into several fibers. Over time, you can switch to fluffy yarn, because from it socks are softer and more pleasant to the touch, however, working with fluffy yarn is more difficult, especially at first.

After we have selected the most important items for knitting, it remains to prepare additional tools:

  • Sharp scissors
  • Crochet hook
  • Centimeter tape.

Perhaps in addition to this list, you will also need small pieces of eraser. When knitting loops, the eraser will save from loosening on some knitting needles while you work with other knitting needles. To do this, you only need to put an eraser on the tip of the knitting needle.

Correct foot measurement and calculation for knitting

First of all, it is necessary to take measurements from the leg in order to gain the required number of toe loops.

  1. We measure the leg lift to determine the circumference of the lift,
  2. Then we measure the circumference of the thinnest place at the ankle of the foot.

Now we calculate the average value of the circle. To do this, add the two previous indicators together and divide the resulting figure into two. For example, the first value - the circumference of the leg lift, we got equal to 25 centimeters, and the second value - the circumference of the thin spot turned out to be equal to 15 centimeters. Now add up the two numbers “25 + 15 = 40” and divide this number into two “40/2 = 20”. Thus, we have the number "20". If you get an odd number, it is advisable for convenience to round it to a multiple of four, since it will be necessary to type loops for the future sock exactly this length.

How to knit socks on five knitting needles: step by step instructions

Now you need to dial the loops in the amount that we calculated. The following is a step-by-step instruction for knitting a sock:

  1. We collect the obtained number of loops on two knitting needles. Then we divide them into equal parts between the four knitting needles. Another fifth, this is the working spoke.
  2. We knit in a circle the upper part of the sock and head down to the heel. It turns out an elastic band with a circular knitting technique. This method allows you to knit tight socks for both an adult and a child. At the same time, we alternate the reverse and front loops 1 * 1 or 2 * 2. It is important that the gum remains level, not twisted.
  3. Knitting a sock in this way will continue until you reach the desired height for the sock. As a rule, the height of the sock is 6-7 centimeters, but you can increase it if desired.
  4. Once you get to the heel, continue to knit a sock on only two main knitting needles.

Shoe Heel Shaping:

  • We need to divide the stitches from two working knitting needles into three. If there are residues, we add them to the central part. Now we turn the wrong side to ourselves and continue to knit only 2/3 of this part. We knit together two loops: one last loop of the middle part (central) and one first loop of the third part.
  • Now we flip the sock and knit the facial ones. Then we remove the last loop of the central part, and we knit the first loop of the third part. We make a broach, having thrown off an untied loop on it. Thus, you need to continue knitting until all the loops of the last part are closed.

The formation of the main part of the sock:

  • When forming the base of the toe, you need to collect loops from the extreme lateral part of the heel, i.e. we take a loop from one closed loop and additionally we throw until we get to those two knitting needles that remained at the beginning of the sock and knit them with a smooth surface, repeating the set on the other side.
  • After the heel is tied, measure it on the foot so that everything fits exactly. If the sock sits comfortably, now you can continue to continue circular knitting. It is advisable to reduce a little loop so that the sock fits the foot. To decrease into even loops (6,8,10), and so on in a circle, knit together at the beginning of the first knitting needle the second and third loops and also the second and third loops are knitted with a broach at the end of the fourth knitting needle.
  • Thus, we continue to reduce the number of loops until their number is equal to the original number of loops. Thus, we knit until the little finger.
  • With the same knitting needles we connect the second and third loops together in every second row. So the sock will narrow. Then reduce the number of stitches in each circle. The last few loops are knitted with a thread and tightened to the inside of the sock to hide the thread.
  • Knitting Tips for Beginners

In the above way, you can knit absolutely any socks, but the knitting technique can be changed so that the look of the sock also changes.

For example, hosiery socks are very popular and beautiful. Its peculiarity is that it is exactly the same both on the outer and inner sides of the sock.

In this article we looked at an example of knitting socks with a short elastic band, but you can lengthen it and get, for example, knee-high socks. If the density is too high, you can use another technique for knitting socks.

You can also add different colors, combine and knit multi-colored socks. With more experience, you can try adding braids, drawings, and so on. When using yarn of various colors, strips along or across are very relevant. The technique does not change, only the colors change, and the ends of the threads are hidden inside the toe and hooked under the loops. Such multi-colored socks will especially appeal to small children.

It is very important that both socks are the same, unless you specifically intended the opposite. To get the same socks, you can leave the knot on a different thread color. At the same time, it will be easier for you to find a place of decrease or color change.

It is advisable to knit men's socks tightly to avoid rubbing the heel. To do this, you can add a thread from synthetics or knit a foot with a double thread.

So that during use the sock does not stretch, you need to tighten the edges with two threads, instead of one, but do not pull too much.

For small children usually use soft yarn, for example, a mixture of synthetics and natural threads. In this case, the socks will be pleasant to the touch and not slippery, which will help to avoid falling during the child's play. It is in such children's socks that various colored stripes are often added so that the finished socks are not monophonic and beautiful.

We knit socks on 5 needles, a master class for beginners

The sock consists of five parts:

For knitting socks, we need knitting needles in the amount of 5 pieces with a diameter of 2 - 2.5 mm. We take soft threads. We need about two tangles of 100 g each. If desired, you can add a thread of a different color.

Having mastered the technique of knitting socks on 5 knitting needles, you can try to knit them with 2 knitting needles, see the master class here.

We put on the knitting needles the number of loops a multiple of four, I dialed 64 loops (a multiple of four), previously measured the circumference of the foot with a centimeter.

The dialed loops are divided into four knitting needles.

We connect the last loop of the fourth knitting needle and the first loop of the first knitting needle (using a hook or knitting needle), skipping the remaining thread on the knitting needle.

Now we pick up the fifth knitting needle and knit the cuff of the sock in a circle.

I knitted a gum pattern: two front loops, two wrong loops.

I like high elastic bands in socks, therefore the height of my cuff is 9 cm or 30 rows. For beauty, I knitted pink stripes four rows wide.

After the cuff, we knit the upper part of the sock with facial loops, grabbing the needle with the upper loop.

Having knitted 4 cm or 15 rows, we proceed to knitting the heel. Here you can add to the main thread - a simple thread of the same color. This is done so that the heel does not quickly rub and is stronger.

We pass directly to the heel. The width of the heel is equal to the number of loops on two knitting needles. In my case, 32 loops. We connect the first and fourth knitting needles. We knit front and back loops 16 rows. This is the height of the heel.

We remove the first loop at the beginning of the row, and the last, knit with the wrong loop. This is necessary so that a beautiful edge is formed.

Now we will knit the bottom of the heel. The number of loops is divided by three. Moreover, on the sides of the loops should be the same, and in the middle - as many as you like. We distribute the loops on three knitting needles. On the side knitting needles I have 11 loops, and in the middle - 10 pieces. We knit with facial loops: the first 11 and middle 9 loops. We knit the tenth with the front loop, and then the first loop of the third needle. Now we lower the tenth loop (i.e. remove the loop from the knitting needle). We get a chain.

The heel will be rounded. On the side knitting needles, the loops will decrease because we knit only middle - ten loops. Expand the knitting needles. We remove the first loop. We knit a series of purl stitches. We knit the last loop of the second needle and the first loop of the first needle together with the wrong loop. Turn the knitting needles and knit the front row. We remove the first loop. At the end we lower the loop, as we already did.

So we knit until the loops on the side knitting needles end.

We turn the sock with an elastic band towards ourselves and knit a number of facial loops. Now we unfold the other side and pick up the loop from the formed sides of the toe. I had 11 loops on the side knitting needles, which means the same number of loops, I have to dial now. Knitted loops are knitted not just with facial loops. We knit them with crossed loops (we take the loop not for the lower part, but for the upper) so that holes do not form.

Then we knit in a circle with facial loops. Having reached the second side of the heel, we also raise the loops in the amount of 11 pieces and knit them.

Now we knit the main part of the sock, periodically reducing the loops, if necessary. This can be found by measuring the sock. Decreases are made in a row with one loop, alternately on each spoke.

We knit the main part of the sock to the middle of the thumb.

We turn to knitting the toe. I have 44 loops left. We will make the reduction of loops starting from the second knitting needle. We knit the first eleven stitches on the first knit without changes. On the second spoke, knitting eight loops, the next two loops - we knit together for the back walls. The last loop of the knitting needle - we knit the front loop and the first third knitting needle too. The next two stitches of the third needle are knitted with the front loop for the front walls. We knit with facial loops to the end of the knitting needle. We knit the fourth knit in the same way, we knit the ninth and tenth loops together with the front for the back walls and one front loop. In the future, the loops will decrease and you can knit a toe on only two knitting needles. Thus, a chain is formed on the sides of the toe. If we fold the sock in half, then it is clearly visible.

We continue to knit according to this pattern until only eight loops remain on the two knitting needles.

Using a hook, thread the thread through the remaining loops.

We tie a knot and hide it inside the sock.

Our sock is ready. It remains to tie the same on the second leg.

Finished products can be slightly steamed with an iron, threads and seams will straighten out, and the thing will look more beautiful.
