How to clean the blender?

A quick tip to quickly wash the blender attachment.

Hello to all home-made people and those who often have to cook in the kitchen!

Nowadays, almost every house has such a kitchen appliance as a blender. It allows you to very quickly prepare a variety of dishes (mashed potatoes, sauces, etc.), literally in seconds, grinding and mixing various ingredients. Moreover, submersible blenders are most popular because they can grind and mix products in any suitable container.

However, after cooking with a blender, it becomes necessary to wash its working nozzle, in which there is a knife for grinding products. And here a problem often arises, since it is not so easy to wash the nozzle, especially after preparing a viscous and greasy dish or sauce. In addition, there is a serious risk of injury to a sharp knife.

However, there is a very simple way to quickly and easily wash the blender's working nozzle. I have been using this method for a long time and I must say that this method is so simple and obvious that, apparently, quite a lot of people use it.

However, it turns out that not everyone is aware of this method. So recently, while visiting my friends, I happened to see how the hostess after cooking, long and hard washed the blender nozzle under the tap and almost cut her finger on a sharp knife. Actually, this fact prompted me to write this article.

So, in order to quickly and easily wash the blender nozzle with a knife, after cooking, you need to pour clean water in a deep bowl, or, for example, in a half-liter jar and immerse the blender nozzle in it, turn it on several times within 2-3 seconds .

At the same time, for better washing, you can intensively move the blender up and down or from side to side, as if trying to mix or grind water.

As a result, the blender’s knife, rotating at high speed in water, will perfectly wash itself and the entire inside of the nozzle. After that, it remains only to rinse the nozzle slightly under the tap, and it will be absolutely clean.

So everything is very simple, fast and safe!

Well, that's all for me! Bye and always clean kitchen appliances and tools!

We clean a stationary blender with a bowl (aka a shaker)

These devices have a large glass or polymer bowl, on the bottom of which there are chopper knives. Getting to them with a brush and cleaning mechanically is not easy, but such a blender is easy to clean if you pour warm water into the bowl with the addition of dishwashing detergent and run for half a minute, at an average speed, see Figure 1 a, c.

Most fragments will be washed off immediately, and especially persistent ones will separate if you leave the solution in the bowl for half an hour. Next, rinse the bowl under a stream of clean water.

Before storing the appliance, dry it, otherwise a musty smell may appear.

The stationary part with the motor and the switch must not be washed; if necessary, the surface is wiped with a damp cloth or a towel with soapy water.

How to wash a gourmet blender

If it’s easy to clean the whisk for whipping a blender or even a powerful mixer, then you will have to tinker with the leg, in which the knives are protected from accidental contact with a special skirt (see Figure 2).

Pic 2Pic 3

The blender leg does not disassemble. And if you do not remove the remnants of food from under the knives in time, and the place where the shaft comes out of the leg, you can even irreparably ruin the nozzle. Dirt forms a crust or worse, it starts to deteriorate, an unpleasant odor and mold appear.

It is good if the body of the leg is metal, see Figure 3. Such a blender can be lowered into hot food, as well as boil the nozzle in a separate pan or drive in the dishwasher at maximum speed.

ATTENTION! Do not attempt to sanitize blender parts in the oven or microwave. In the first case, you spoil the seals and bushings of the shaft rotation, and in the second you burn the microwave.

After washing and heat treatment, attach the motor block to the leg, lower it in warm (and metal can be in hot) water and turn it on for 20-25 seconds. Inspect the knives; if necessary, turn them on and lower them in water again.

If residues of softened dirt remain on the shaft or under the knives, remove them with a cotton swab and rinse the nozzle under a strong stream of water.

Blender with chopper bowl

Universal blenders, in addition to direct nozzles, are equipped with a bowl with an S - shaped knife for chopping ice meat, nuts, etc. (see Figure 4). In the lid of the bowl there is a gear reducer, which reduces the speed of rotation and increases the force of movement of the blades.

With this gear cover you should be especially careful. Be sure to check whether it can be washed with complete immersion in water, otherwise the gearbox may jam and the part will fail, and in most cases the cover with gears cannot be disassembled and will be hopelessly damaged.

A knife with a shaft and a bowl can be washed quite easily. If adhering pieces still remain, they can easily be removed with warm water and a washing solution. Even knives can be cleaned with a sponge, moving from the shaft along the knife. Be careful - the knives are very sharp.

General information

Of ordinary wiping with a sponge, even with a disinfectant, is not enough for normal blender care. In his bowl, nozzles are attached, under which the remains of the crushed mixture are clogged, and pieces of minced meat are wound on the rotor. If all this is not timely removed, then the engine, due to excessive load, will quickly fail. In addition, any crushed mixture in a blender will acquire an unpleasant aroma of musty or rotten food. It is unlikely that anyone would want to cook something with his help.

How to clean the blender and what difficulties may arise? For example, the manufacturer strictly forbids immersing such equipment in water, and the base itself, where the filter and adapter shaft is located on the bowl, can be non-removable. If water gets inside, then engine corrosion will begin (although more often it is printed circuit boards that have tumblers for controlling the operating modes of the electric motor).

At the same time, if you do not wash and clean the blender in a timely manner or poorly perform this procedure, then pretty soon:

  • dull knives
  • the bowl is covered with plaque and scratches due to dry food debris,
  • the engine will not produce the declared number of revolutions.

Accordingly, it is no longer possible to grind products normally with such a technique. And under warranty repairs such breakdowns, provoked by improper care, do not fall.

How to wash the bowl and nozzles

The simplest and at the same time universal option for washing bowls and nozzles is additional cycle in the "grinding" mode at minimum power with the addition of water. Pour the bowl into 2/3 of warm boiled water, add only 1-2 drops of dishwashing detergent and 2-3 slices of lemon there. The latter will not only remove the unpleasant odor even after minced meat or fish, but also with the help of the zest will clean the knives themselves.

Then the dirty water is drained, the disinfectant solution is poured and the blender is started for a second cycle (with a minimum power). Cleaning completed.

To clean the blender nozzle, if minced meat or other food remains are wound on it, you can carefully remove the knives (according to the instructions) and clean with a damp soft sponge. Beat nozzles, as a rule, do not need such a procedure, but if necessary, they are washed under running water (with a minimum pressure). After beating eggs, the corollas should be treated with a disinfectant solution.

Cleaning the main part (where the motor is located)

Main partin which the engine and controls are located, do not need to be washed. This rule applies to both stationary and submersible blenders. The technique is designed in such a way that the food mixture should not fall into that area. And even if this happened - just do a wipe with a slightly damp sponge (the equipment must be de-energized before that). On some models of hand blenders, the handle is rubberized and in this case, to clean, you need to moisten the sponge harder, otherwise the dirt will not be washed off.

There are those models of blenders that are allowed to wash in the dishwasher. Their key difference is the presence of seals at the joints, which do not allow moisture to penetrate inside. If you wash the blender in this way, then be sure to follow the manufacturer's recommendations. For different brands, the cleaning principle varies slightly.

How to clean the dried mixture?

If you do not clean the blender in a timely manner, then the remnants of the crushed mixture will surely dry out to the bowl itself, and to the nozzle. If the design is collapsible, then the bowl together with the knives should be soaked for several hours in soapy water, and then washed with a sponge and detergent.

And what if the blender is impossible to disassemble? In this case, 2/3 of the volume of warm water is poured into the bowl, 2 teaspoons of baking soda, 50 milliliters of vinegar and 5-10 drops of detergent are added there. Then you need to turn on the grinding cycle at minimum power (10-15 seconds). After that, do not remove the lid, but let the blender stand with the mixture inside for at least 6-8 hours. Next is a repeated grinding cycle.

Dirty water must be drained, and then wash the blender again in the usual way (with lemon). If this does not help to cope with pollution, then there is only the option of contacting an official service center - cleaning should be carried out mechanically with disassembly. For this reason, equipment should be cleaned in a timely manner.

Use of cleaning chemicals

According to instructions no specialized blender cleaners. The only things that can be used are dishwashing gel and disinfectant solution (0.5% soda ash solution). Everything else is strictly contraindicated, as it can damage the knives or provoke corrosion.

Total cleaning of the blender begins with familiarization with the manufacturer's recommendations. With collapsible models, there are no problems at all; with modular models, the main thing is to timely clean. Keep all parts and the device itself must be completely dried.

In no case should you violate the rules specified in the instruction manual. Their ignoring is more likely to lead to the failure of equipment.
