A self-made T-shirt will always look original. In addition, if you sew clothes yourself you can save a lot. For example, for this T-shirt it took only 80 cm of knitted fabric, a meter of linen elastic and one spool of thread.
The technology of tailoring this women's T-shirt can be used to sew T-shirts for girls and even T-shirts for dolls.
Women's T-shirt pattern
The pattern of this women's t-shirt can be done on the basis of your existing t-shirt. T-shirt parts can be copied onto paper using a needle. And the easiest way is to rip the old T-shirt, iron the seams and transfer the contours of the details of the T-shirt to paper. Then check the correspondence of the side and shoulder seams, adjust them if necessary. You can search for a ready-made basis for t-shirt patterns on the Internet.
The shoulders of this model are t-shirts, so the armholes of the sleeves must be made, as shown in my photo.
The neck also has a feature, the cutout on the front of the T-shirt is very deep.
If you do not know how to build patterns, do not spare paper, try on, cut, paste, until you get the paper pattern you need and suitable for you.
On the back of the T-shirt, the armhole is the same as on the front half.
The edging of the neck and armholes of the sleeve will be made with strips of the same fabric. Calculate the length and width (3-4cm) yourself by measuring the neck and circumference of the armhole.
Technology for sewing women's knit t-shirts
You need to start sewing T-shirts with the processing of shoulder seams, so fold the front and back halves of the shirt together and pin the shoulder seams with pins.
For sewing knitted fabrics, just one sewing machine is enough - a knitted overlock. Therefore, the seams do not have to be sewn with a straight line, just overcast.
This is how the neck of a T-shirt will look after sewing off shoulder seams.
Step One - Build a Pattern
It is very simple to build a pattern of a women's t-shirt, you will need measurements:
- Og - breast volume,
- Osh is the volume of the neck,
- Dr - the length of the sleeve,
- DP - the length of the shoulder,
- Di is the length of the product.
Important! Measure the length of the neckline of the pattern with a tailor's centimeter and make the pattern of its stitching 2-3 cm shorter (depending on the extensibility of the fabric).
Step two - select the fabric and cut
Sewing a women's t-shirt is possible only from knitwear; bielastic (stretching along the lobar and transverse) material is best suited. The composition of the fibers can be very different: from cotton and viscose to polyester and silk. Choose the option that suits you.
Important! Do not forget to cut a piece of natural fibers before cutting, so that the material shrinks. Colored - rinse after washing in water with vinegar to fix the color.
Iron with an iron of suitable temperature, let cool and fold along the length line with the face inward on a flat surface (the table is best).
Carefully lay out the pattern details on the material, observing the direction of the shared thread, and circle them. Draw allowances for the seams - 0.7 cm, add 2 cm to the hem of the bottom of the product and the sleeves. Chip the fabric with sharp pins along the contour of the patterns and cut with sharp scissors.
If you sew a shirt from a fabric with a print, then buy 15-20 cm more. This will advantageously position the picture. In this case, it is best to cut the fabric over the face using a disappearing marker (check first on an unnecessary piece) or a piece of dry pointed soap.
Important! Knit stitches and obliques always cut perpendicular to the direction of the loops (i.e., the shared thread).
Step Three - Sew
You will need a sewing machine with knitted and overcast stitches, special needles for knitwear and a double needle for hemming. 4-thread overlock will do fine with sewing seams.
- We perform shoulder seams. So that they do not stretch, cut along the lobar two strips 2 cm wide and long, like a shoulder seam. Fold them with their seamy sides inward and seam from the wrong side of the shelf along the sections of the shoulder seams before connecting them to the back.
- Stitch the neckline in the ring, iron this seam. Fold it in half inside out and, evenly stretching, sweep with the neck. Join the seam on the machine or overlock. Iron the allowances for the back and shelf parts, and give over the knitted stitch to fix them in this position.
- Stitch sleeves in open armholes.
- Make side seams.
- Fold the hem and sleeves with a double needle.
Do not deny yourself the desire to decorate your creation and wear with pleasure!
You can choose and buy knitwear in the Textile online store.
The first increment values are given for a typical T-shirt, the second digits in brackets are the increment values for loose clothing (for example, a loose t-shirt).
If you cut the resulting pattern without allowances for seams, you get a tight T-shirt.
For clarity, I will use your meanings, of course, substitute your own.
(1) T-shirt length - measure Df
(2) waistline - measurement Dst, optional line.
(3) T-shirt width = Exhaust gas / 4 + 2.5 cm (5 cm),
e.g. for og = 100 cm: 100/4 + 2.5 = 27.5 cm (100/4 + 5 = 30 cm)
(4) armhole line = Forward + 3 cm (5.5 cm),
with Injection = 21 cm: 21 + 3 = 24 (21 + 5.5 = 26.5 cm)
(5) back width = Ws / 2 + 1 (1.5 cm)
with Шс = 40 cm: 40/2 + 1 = 21 cm (40/2 + 1,5 = 21.5 cm)
Auxiliary line for the construction of the armhole line.
(6) neck width = Osh / 5 - 1
with Osh = 41 cm: 41/5 - 1 = 7.2 cm
Up from the point (6) 1.5 cm. This is the upper point of the shoulder.
(7) shoulder tilt value = (4) / 8
at (4) = 24 cm: 24/8 = 3 cm
when constructing the free form (4) = 26.5 cm: 26.5 / 8 = 3.3 cm.
We mark (7) and draw a horizontal line to the line of the width of the back, and put it beyond this line by 8 mm. This is the end point of the shoulder.
Draw a line of the shoulder.
(8) — neck depth = Osh / 5 - 2 cm,
with Osh = 41 cm: 41/5 - 2 = 6.2 cm
We draw in smooth lines the neck of the back and front.
Draw a line of armholes.
Before sharpening the edging, you need to carry out preparatory work, divide the circumference of the neck into four equal parts and put the marks with a pencil for fabric or chalk.
Labels must be placed exactly in the middle of the neckline front and back.
Now put these marks on the front and back halves of the shirt together and put two more marks. As a result, the neck circumference will be divided into four equal segments.
Iron the shoulder seams on the front so that the allowances are laid on the back of the shirt.
The length of the strip should be slightly less than the circumference of the neck. In this case, the edging along the neck will be slightly stretched, and will not turn out.
Connect the edges of the strip together.
Now the strip needs to be folded in half and ironed. After that, divide the border of the border into four parts and put the corresponding marks.
Further it is necessary to combine marks of a fringing and a mouth together so that the connecting seam of an inlay was behind. Chip these areas with pins or sweep the entire seam manually.
Now it remains only to overcast this seam on the overlock and the neck processing of the T-shirt will be completed.
Processing armholes t-shirts
Processing of the armhole with edging is carried out as well as the neck, only even easier, since you do not need to make markings and stretch the strip. Just sew overlocked folded strip along the armhole.
It is convenient to iron the edging of the neck of the T-shirt on a special block for ironing the sleeves.
Iron the rim of the armhole on the ironing board.
Now it remains only to connect the side seams of the T-shirt and make a hem.
T-shirt side seams
Fold the side seams together and chop them or sweep them. Combine the edges of the armholes treated with inlay as accurately as possible.
Trim the side seams, making sure that the "edges" of the rim of the armhole are at the same level.
How to “knit” overlock stitches
The threads of the overlock seam cannot be cut, otherwise the seam will open. Leave the long “tails” of the overlock seam and thread them directly into the seam using a large eye needle.
It’s very convenient to use such a device, designed to raise the loops of a knitted fabric.
Bottom hem for women's knit t-shirt
Despite the simplicity of the exterior, this T-shirt model has a number of original features, including a way to process hem.
An ordinary linen elastic will be adjusted along the bottom cut of the t-shirt.
Determine the degree of tightening around the hips.
Then connect its edges on a sewing machine and divide the hem and gum circumference into four equal segments. Align the marks and pin these sections with pins.
Overlock the bottom of the T-shirt with the underwear.
To "hide" the gum you need to make one more, the last straight line on a regular sewing machine.
Another feature of this T-shirt is that the fabric for its sewing has a coupon.
There is no picture on the back of the T-shirt. But you can choose a different fabric, without a coupon.
On this, the tailoring of a knitted women's t-shirt is finished.

Measure the distance between the ends of the armhole.
(9) okat height = (4) / 2
at (4) = 24 cm: 24/2 = 12 cm
when constructing the free form (4) = 26.5 cm: 26.5 / 2 = 13.3 cm.
Draw a horizontal line from the end of line (9).
Set aside from the top (9) on the horizontal measurement + 2.5 cm.
(10) the length of the sleeve

(11) bottom width. You can measure on the figure, you can take 2/3 of the total width of the bottom.
How to sew a knit t-shirt
Hello! So the long-awaited summer came, warmth, light clothing and evening walks. How glad I am. For the warm season, a gray t-shirt for me is an absolute mast have. And in a feast, and in the world, and in good people, as they say, so today we will deal with it.
I tell you my method of how I sew t-shirts from knitwear. I do not claim that it is necessary to sew this way and this method is the most correct. Not! But the product is quite wearable.
We will need:
- gray knitwear 70 cm.,
- threads in color 4 spools,
- old t-shirt (I have from YOUR size xs)
- tracing paper,
- a pencil.
Remember in February I sewed six dresses for tango for my sister’s birthday? There I wrote how to make a pattern of the front and back of an old T-shirt.
