At this time, such an unusual “simulator” as a balance board is beginning to gain popularity, this is the so-called balancing board which is designed to develop coordination and the vestibular apparatus, as well as to maintain the tone of the whole body and physical form. If you look at the prices of such simulators, it seems that they are not justifiably expensive, because this is just a board on a piece of pipe. Let’s try to make the balanceboard yourself out of common not expensive materials and at the same time it will be beautiful and functional as well as the original balancing board.

How to make a balance board, step by step instructions:

At first I took a thick water thick-walled pipe to use as a roller for a balancing board but it turned out to be not perfectly round, it was oval. Then a cardboard sleeve caught my eye - a reel on which a film or carpet is wound, the wall thickness of such a sleeve is 8 mm, this was enough for strength.

Then I saturate it well with varnish, it became even more durable and waterproof.

At home I found plywood 10 mm thick with a length of 1.5 m, I cut a 38 cm wide strip to its entire length. Now we cut the strip in half so that we get 2 identical rectangles.

We apply PVA carpentry glue to one side of each of their boards, spread it over the entire surface and glue them together. For quality bonding, I put another sheet of plywood on top of which I put heavy things. Now you need to let the glue dry, leave it for about a day.

Now we have a 20 cm thick board and we can’t break it anymore. Now you need to form the shape of the future balance board. To do this, I stepped 30 mm on each side (short sides) and drew a line to the center of the board (10 cm from the center), and then rounded the edges, outlining the lid from the paint can. And then he walked along the drawn outline with a jigsaw.

Then I polished the balancing board from all sides with 180 grit sandpaper, I did this with a grinder, but you can do it manually.

On both sides of the board we measure 75 mm, here we will glue on a piece of plywood 16 mm thick. Additionally, for the strength of the connection, I screwed into them 2 screws.

We remove the chamfers on both sides of the board, I do this with the help of a milling cutter, you can also do this with a file, I worked them over the edges where the milling cutter did not reach. Now polish the edges with additional sandpaper to make them smooth.

I varnished the lower part of the balanceboard, but first I will put a picture on the front part, on our website we already showed a way to transfer the image to a tree. We will briefly describe how I did it.

To get started, I printed a picture of a bus and cut along its contour, then took a water-based acrylic varnish and smeared it on the image and put it aside. Now with the same varnish I covered the entire upper surface of the board with a thick layer.

We put the picture of the bus on the surface just covered with varnish and the image to the board and smooth it well with a roller.

Now when it dries, we tear off the paper a little gently, its upper layer and leave for a while until the varnish is completely dry. Then we wet the remaining paper with water, this can be done with a brush or a wet sponge and begin to roll the paper with your fingers, you can also do this with a cloth, first the top layer is constantly wetted with additional water.

So we bring it to such a state until there is no paper left at all, and the image will be clearly and clearly visible.

It remains to cover the surface together with the transferred image of varnish and the balance board made by yourself is ready!

Materials and tools that we need

  • Arms
  • Jigsaw
  • Screwdriver or trick
  • Grinder or emery cloth P80-P120
  • Ruler
  • Simple pencil

Birch plywood 15 mm 75 by 36 mm

Self-tapping screws yellow 3 by 50 mm 6 pieces

Acrylic or alkyd polyurethane varnish

Wooden block 250 x 100 x 40 mm

You will succeed

1. We saw out a 600 mm 360 mm platform with a jigsaw.

If your sizes differ, there will be nothing wrong with that.

2. We cut the skids.

Using an inextensible rope, draw two radii. The radius of curvature depends on the qualifications of our ward.

The smaller the radius, the more difficult. We cut it out, trying to make the radius as even as possible.

3. Saw off a bar of 200 by 40 by 100 mm

4. We grind all the details

5. Mark the top of the board (optional)

6. We drill holes in the board and runners so that the screws would fall into the bar

7. Screw the screws.

8. Apply varnish

9. grind

10. Glue the anti-slip skin or cover with alkyd varnish and sprinkle with quartz sand.
